   a compound which forms a chelate with a metal ion.

   Note: Commonly used chelating agents in laboratory use are
         {EDTA} and {sodium citrate}. Citrate is used as an
         additive to blood collected in blood banks, to chelate
         the calcium ions and retard clotting.
