p['e]dagogue, L. paedagogus, Gr. paidagwgo`s; pai^s, paido`s,
a boy + 'a`gein to lead, guide; cf. 'agwgo`s leading. See

1. (Gr. Antiq.) A slave who led his master's children to
school, and had the charge of them generally.
