   fr. Hung. hajdu.]
   Formerly, a mercenary foot soldier in Hungary, now, a
   halberdier of a Hungarian noble, or an attendant in German or
   Hungarian courts. [Written also {hayduck}, {haiduk},
   {heiduc}, {heyduck}, and {heyduk}.]
