   (Chem.)
   A powerful vegetable alkaloid, {C17H19NO5}, extracted from
   the {Colchicum autumnale}, or meadow saffron, as a white or
   yellowish amorphous powder, with a harsh, bitter taste; --
   called also {colchicia}.
