Spirillum \Spi*ril"lum\, n. [NL., dim. of L. spira a coil.]
   1. (Biol.) A genus of common gram-negative motile
      microorganisms (family {Spirillaceae}) having the form of
      spiral-shaped filaments. They are obligately
      microaerophilic, and do not ferment carbohydrates.
