Scorpene \Scor"pene\, n. [F. scorp[`e]ne, fr. L. scorpaena a
   kind of fish, Gr. ?.] (Zool.)
   A marine food fish of the genus {Scorpaena}, as the European
   hogfish ({Scorpaena scrofa}), and the California species
   ({Scorpaena guttata}).
