Scalaria \Sca*la"ri*a\, n. [L., flight of steps.] (Zool.) Any one of numerous species of marine gastropods of the genus {Scalaria}, or family {Scalaridae}, having elongated spiral turreted shells, with rounded whorls, usually crossed by ribs or varices.
