   (a) The American larch; also, the larch of Oregon and British
       Columbia ({Larix occidentalis}). See {Hackmatack}, and
       {Larch}.
   (b) The black pine ({Pinus Murrayana}) of Alaska, California,
       etc. It is a small tree with fine-grained wood.
