Malpighia \Mal*pi"ghi*a\, n. [NL. See {Malpighian}.] (Bot.)
   A genus of tropical American shrubs with opposite leaves and
   small white or reddish flowers. The drupes of {Malpighia
   glabra} (formerly {Malpighia urens}) are eaten under the name
   of {Barbadoes cherries}.
