Stake-driver \Stake"-driv`er\ (-dr[imac]v`[~e]r), n. (Zool.)
   The common American bittern ({Botaurus lentiginosus}); -- so
   called because one of its notes resembles the sound made in
   driving a stake into the mud. Called also {meadow hen}, and
   {Indian hen}.
