   A vegetable substance consisting of soft, elastic, yellowish
   brown chaff, gathered in the Hawaiian Islands from the young
   fronds of free ferns of the genus {Cibotium}, chiefly
   {Cibotium Menziesii}; -- used for stuffing mattresses,
   cushions, etc., and as an absorbent.
