whitespace

   <character> (From the colour it produces on white paper) Any
   contiguous sequence of {spaces}, {tabs}, {carriage returns},
   and/or {line feeds}.  Whitespace might also possibly include
   {form feed} characters.  The term is common on {Unix}.
