Uniaxial \U`ni*ax"i*al\, a. [Uni + axial.]
   1. (Crystallog.) Having but one optic axis, or line of no
      double refraction.

         of the vertical crystallographic axis. All tetragonal
         and hexagonal crystals are uniaxial.
