Scutellate \Scu"tel*late\, Scutellated \Scu"tel*la`ted\, a. [L.
   scutella a dish, salver. Cf. {Scuttle} a basket.]
   1. (Zool.) Formed like a plate or salver; composed of
      platelike surfaces; as, the scutellated bone of a
      sturgeon. --Woodward.
