Rim-fire \Rim"-fire`\, a.
   Having the percussion fulminate in a rim surrounding the
   base, distinguished from {center-fire}; -- said of
   cartridges; also, using rim-fire cartridges; as, a rim-fire
   gun. Such cartridges are now little used.
