Redemptionist \Re*demp"tion*ist\, n. (R.C.Ch.)
   A monk of an order founded in 1197; -- so called because the
   order was especially devoted to the redemption of Christians
   held in captivity by the Mohammedans. Called also
   {Trinitarian}.
