Pleuroderes \Pleu*rod"e*res\, n. pl. [NL., fr. Gr. ? the side +
   ? the neck.] (Zool.)
   A group of fresh-water turtles in which the neck can not be
   retracted, but is bent to one side, for protection. The
   {matamata} is an example.
