Picariae \Pi*ca"ri*[ae]\, n. pl. [NL., fr. L. picus a woodpecker.] (Zool.) An extensive division of birds which includes the woodpeckers, toucans, trogons, hornbills, kingfishers, motmots, rollers, and goatsuckers.
