   ph['e]nicine.] (Chem.)
   (a) A purple powder precipitated when a sulphuric solution of
       indigo is diluted with water.
   (b) A coloring matter produced by the action of a mixture of
       strong nitric and sulphuric acids on phenylic alcohol.
