Orthognathous \Or*thog"na*thous\, a. [Ortho- + Gr. gna`qos the
   jaw.] (Anat.)
   Having the front of the head, or the skull, nearly
   perpendicular, not retreating backwards above the jaws; --
   opposed to {prognathous}. See {Gnathic index}, under
   {Gnathic}.
