interdicted of fire and wate

from Bouvier's Law Dictionary, Revised 6th Ed (1856)
INTERDICTED OF FIRE AND WATER. Formerly those persons who were banished for
some crime, were interdicted of fire and water; that is, by the judgment
order was given that no man should receive them into his house, but should
deny them fire and water, the two necessary elements of life.
