   1. (Bot.) A plant of the genus {Dipsacus}, of which one
      species ({Dipsacus fullonum}) bears a large flower head
      covered with stiff, prickly, hooked bracts. This flower
      head, when dried, is used for raising a nap on woolen
      cloth.
