Dermatophyte \Der*mat"o*phyte\ (d[~e]r*m[a^]t"[-o]*f[imac]t or
   d[~e]r"m[.a]*t[-o]*f[imac]t), n. [Gr. de`rma, -atos, skin +
   fyto`n plant.] (Med.)
   A fungus infecting and parasitic on the skin, especially one
   which causes disease; as, ringworm is caused by a
   dermatophyte.
