Deergrass \Deer"grass`\, n. (Bot.)
   An American genus ({Rhexia}) of perennial herbs, with
   opposite leaves, and showy flowers (usually bright purple),
   with four petals and eight stamens, -- the only genus of the
   order {Melastomace[ae]} inhabiting a temperate clime.
