   1. (Zool.)
      (a) A European fresh-water fish of the Carp family
          ({Leuciscus rutilus}). It is silver-white, with a
          greenish back.
      (b) An American chub ({Semotilus bullaris}); the fallfish.
      (c) The redfin, or shiner.
