   Gr. xi`fos a sword + sternum.] (Anat.)
   (a) The posterior segment, or extremity, of the sternum; --
       sometimes called {metasternum}, {ensiform cartilage},
       {ensiform process}, or {xiphoid process}.
   (b) The xiphiplastron. -- {Xiph"i*ster"nal}a.
