Xanthoxylum \Xan*thox"y*lum\, n. [NL., from Gr. xanqo`s yellow +
   xy`lon wood.] (Bot.)
   A genus of prickly shrubs or small trees, the bark and rots
   of which are of a deep yellow color; prickly ash.
