Sclerobase \Scler"o*base\ (? or ?), n. [Gr. sklhro`s hard +
   ba`sis base.] (Zool.)
   The calcareous or hornlike coral forming the central stem or
   axis of most compound alcyonarians; -- called also {foot
   secretion}. See Illust. under {Gorgoniacea}, and
