Lugubrious \Lu*gu"bri*ous\, a. [L. lugubris, fr. lugere to
   mourn; cf. Gr. lygro`s sad, Skr. ruj to break.]
   Mournful; indicating sorrow, often ridiculously or feignedly;
   doleful; woful; pitiable; as, a whining tone and a lugubrious
   look.
