IPsec

   <networking, protocol, security> ("{IP} Secure"?) A {protocol}
   that provides {security} for transmission of sensitive
   information over unprotected {networks} such as the
   {Internet}.  IPsec acts at the {network layer}, protecting and
   authenticating {IP} {packets} between participating devices
   ("peers"), such as {Cisco} {routers}.
