Ferae \Fe"r[ae]\, prop. n. pl. [L., wild animals, fem. pl. of
   ferus wild.] (Zool.)
   A group of mammals which formerly included the Carnivora,
   Insectivora, Marsupialia, and lemurs, but is now often
   restricted to the Carnivora.
