Amortize \A*mor"tize\, v. t. [OE. amortisen, LL. amortisare,
admortizare, F. amortir to sell in mortmain, to extinguish;
L. ad + mors death. See {Mortmain}].
1. To make as if dead; to destroy. [Obs.] --Chaucer.
