[=a]l[imac]htan; pref. [=a]- (cf. Goth. us-, G. er-, orig.
meaning out) + l[imac]htan, to alight, orig. to render light,
to remove a burden from, fr. l[imac]ht, leoht, light. See

or from a carriage; to dismount.
